Imogen Poots is to play Cordelia in the untold story of King Lear’s favourite daughter.

The Unanimous Pictures production is being directed by Gordy Hoffman (Love Liza and A Coat Of Snow) and is based on a script by newcomer Melissa Brandt. The film is focussed on Cordelia’s story, rather than that of King Lear, after she is banished to France by her father.

Shooting of the independently produced film is planned for autumn. Sean Bobbit (Hunger, Sense And Sensibility) will serve as director of photography.

Unanimous Productions, run by Chris Coen, also has a slate including Godmother based on a script by Ron Bass and Single Shot which will be directed by David Jacobson.

Hoffman first encountered writer Melissa Brandt through a screenplay competition which he has run for 10 years. He said “She’s a remarkable writer and she has come up with this incredible conceit. You wonder why some fringe theatre group in Tokyo hasn’t already thought of this.”

Unanimous Pictures are currently in discussions with sales agents.
