Banijay has expanded its operations in Israel, acquiring a 51% share in MoviePlus Productions.

Drama, feature film and doc producer MoviePlus was established by David Mandil, and is behind the Academy Award-nominated films Footnote and Beaufort; A Tale Of Love And Darkness, in which Natalie Portman made her directorial debut; and Norman by Joseph Cedar, starring Richard Gere, Steve Buscemi, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

MoviePlus also has a track record in drama series, including Our Boys for HBO and Keshet International, Miguel (Canal+) and Embezzlement for YES Studios.

As part of Banijay, MoviePlus will continue to be operated by Mandil, and will retain its company identity. The scripted division of Endemol Shine Israel also continues to operate separately under head of drama Gal Zaid.

Banijay has long had a footprint in the country through Endemol Shine Israel with scripted credits including Valley Of Tears, which launched on IPBC and sold to HBO Max. Endemol Shine Israel also won two International Emmys for its titles, Traffic Light and Nevsu.

As part of the deal, MoviePlus upcoming titles will now be distributed by Banijay Rights.
