The Cannes Marché has announced its virtual ’Pre-Cannes Screenings’ will run from May 25-28.

The online event is being organised to support sales agents ahead of the official physical market running July 6-15, alongside the Cannes Film Festival which is scheduled to run July 6-17.

The Marché said the pre-screenings would run on the upgraded marchedufilm.online platform, which would offer virtual booths for sales companies and streaming screening rooms.

Access to this platform will be reserved for buyers already registered with the Marché du Film.

The Marché emphasised that the actual market will take place alongside the festival in July with its traditional offering of physical stands, screenings, the Village International, networking programs and conferences.

There will also be a virtual component in July for professionals unable to travel to France this year because of ongoing Covid-19 health fears and restrictions.

Additionally, a coalition of US agencies and international sales agents are also reflecting on coordinating a virtual event from mid-June onwards aimed at launching film packages but not involving screenings, although details have yet to be set.

It will be similar to last year’s virtual initiative which involved the likes of Endeavor Content, CAA Media Finance, Wild Bunch International, AGC Studios and FilmNation.
