Industry veteran Cristina Garza has joined UTA Independent Film Group as an agent and will work in structuring finance and sales strategies for independent film and television packages.
New York-based Garza most recently served as SVP of TV development and production at Fifth Season, where she led film and premium television development, production and sales and managed numerous producer pod deals.
In her new role, the agent will attend Sundance (January 22-February 1) and Berlin (February 12-22) as part of the team led by partner and UTA Independent Film Group head Rena Ronson.
“Cristina has extensive development, sales and packaging experience and a history of bridge-building between international creators and the US industry,” Ronson told Screen. “Her arrival reinforces our commitment to expanding our global presence in both independent film and the growing international television co-production business.”
In previous senior roles, Garza worked at CA Media Finance, and led Latino content at Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios and before that ran the Latin American film sales arm Mundial at Ford’s IM Global.
Prior to Mundial, she oversaw distribution at Canana, the Mexico City-based production and distribution company founded by Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, and Pablo Cruz.
Current and recent UTA Independent Film Group package highlights include Jason Segel and James Ponsoldt’s Sponsor, and Way Of The Warrior Kid with Chris Pratt.
Among the group’s Sundance sales slate are Premieres selections Wicker starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard and The Invite directed by Olivia Wilde and starring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton, and Wilde, and Alex Gibney’s Knife: The Attempted Murder Of Salman Rushdie.
