New features from Alonso Ruizpalacios, Aida Begic and Amanda Nell Eu are among the 35 projects selected for the 2026 Berlinale Co-Production Market.

The 35 projects hail from 27 countries, and will take part in the market to find financing and production partners.

Mexico’s Ruizpalacios, whose most recent film was 2024’s La Cocina starring Rooney Mara and who has also helmed episodes of Disney+ series Andor, participates with The Transmigration Of Bodies, produced by Saltalaliebre.

Amanda Nell Eu brings Lotus Feet, a fantastical body horror drawing on Malaysian folk stories. Her Tiger Stripes won the top prize in the Cannes Critics Week in 2024.

Children Of Sarajevo filmmaker Begic takes part with Sylvia, produced by This and That Productions.

Other filmmakers taking part include Eduardo Casanova, Klaudia Reynicke, Signe Baumane, Deepak Rauniyar, Fernando Guzzoni, Hao Wu and Leonie Krippendorff.

The project teams will meet with 600 potential co-producers, world sales agents, distributors and other financiers at the event, which will run from February 14-17 at the Atrium Tower at the Berlinale Service Center.

Sixteen of the 35 projects are directed by women, with 390 total submissions for this year’s market, up significantly from last year.

Cash prizes include the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award worth €20,000 and the Gen Z Audience Award worth €5,000.

Commenting on this year’s selection, Martina Bleis, head of the Co-Production Market, said: “Genre is strongly represented in our selection this year: horror, particularly body horror, provides a powerful and commercially interesting narrative form for several projects with relevant political and psychological themes. But participants will also find outstanding arthouse animation projects, dramas, thrillers, action films, and some comedies among the projects they can help finance and realise. Family models, gender-based violence, identity, and self-determination are some of the recurring themes this time.”
