Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan is an advanced talks to pen a feature adaptation of new John le Carré spy novel A Delicate Truth.

On the day of its publication, production company The Ink Factory revealed that it is in advanced talks with Monahan to write a film based on A Delicate Truth.

The feature would be produced by The Ink Factory and developed with BBC Films.

Monahan won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2007 for The Departed.

He recently wrote the screenplay for sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The Ink Factory and Somesuch & Co have also produced a teaser for the book (watch below). Directed by Kim Gehrig, it gives clues about the conspiracy at the heart of the story while delivering an impressionistic portrait of the writer and his creative process.

The short brings together crew from both Skyfall and the film adaptation of le Carré’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

A Delicate Truth is le Carré’s 23rd novel. Previous titles to have been adapted for film include The Russia House, The Tailor of Panama and The Constant Gardener. Upcoming adaptations include Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man and Justin Kurzel’s Our Kind of Traitor.
