‘First Reformed’

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) Content Group will handle the international roll -out of Paul Schrader’s First Reformed, which received its UK premiere at Sundance London last week.

Ethan Hawke stars as a tormented priest in the film, which co-stars Amanda Seyfried and Cedric the Entertainer.

UPHE Content Group, which specialises in multi-platform releasing on a worldwide basis, will oversee the release of the film in multiple foreign territories - and will look to give it theatrical play where appropriate. This follows on from the film’s US launch through A24 in mid-May.

Theatrical releases in additional markets are expected to be confirmed shortly. UPHE Content Group is planning home entertainment releases in Australia, China, Japan, France, Italy, Benelux and Spain later this autumn.

The London-based UPHE Content Group acquires and produces films for worldwide distribution across theatrical, home entertainment, television and digital platforms.

The company recently picked up Nicolas Pesce’s Sundance comedy horror Piercing and also released Olivier Assayas’s Personal Shopper, Ingrid Goes West, Mandy, Mom & Dad and Girl With All The Gifts. It has handled documentaries including Cobain: Montage of Heck, I Am Bolt, Class of 92 and The Defiant Ones.

The UK theatrical release through Picturehouse is set for Friday 13th July. The film, which has also screened at Toronto, Telluride, Venice, and New York film festivals, is expected to go out on over 30 screens in the UK.

First Reformed is a Fibonacci Films production in association with Arclight Films International and Big Indie Pictures.

First Reformed was executive produced by UK distribution veterans Mick Southworth and Martin McCabe through their Omeira Studio Partners outfit.
