EXCLUSIVE: Trisha Ziff’s Gerry Adams – A Ballymurphy Man has been picked up by Dublin-based distributor Wildcard for UK-Ireland release.
The feature doc won the best international documentary prize at the Galway Film Fleadh, with Adams in attendance at the Fleadh, which drew to a close yesterday (July 13). Wildcard acquired the film at the Fleadh’s marketplace, the Galway Film Fair.
A cinema release has been planned for later this year.
Adams was president of Sinn Féin from 1983 to 2018, and was a critical voice in the decision taken by the IRA to lay down their arms after 25 years of conflict in Northern Ireland and in the signing of the Irish peace accord, the Good Friday Agreement, in 1998. The documentary sees Adams tell his story, reflecting on 60 years of activism in Northern Ireland, from prisoner to elder statesman.
Producers are the late Irish filmmaker, cinematographer and photographer Ross McDonnell and Ziff for Los Angeles and Mexico City-based 212 Berlin. Wildcard negotiated the deal with 212 Berlin.
Wildcard’s slate also includes Saipan starring Steven Coogan on which it is a co-producer and will release in UK-Ireland with Veritgo in September, plus Lance Daly’s Trad, winner of the audience award at the Galway Film Fleadh.
