‘Brunello: The Gracious Visionary’

EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore’s documentary Brunello: The Gracious Visionary has been acquired for release in UK and Ireland by Picturehouse Entertainment.

The film about Italian fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli, known as ’The King of Cashmere’, is repped by UK-based international sales and production company Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment.

The film will premiere in the UK in June with the exact date to be confirmed, and the release will be supported by the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

Directed by Tornatore, who won an Oscar for Cinema Paradiso, the documentary is scored by Academy Award winning composer Nicola Piovani (Life is Beautiful).

Cucinelli grew up in a rural agricultural community before founding his eponymous company, dyeing cashmere in vibrant, contemporary colours and creating high-quality, artisanal Italian knitwear.

Cucinelli and the company are based in Solomeo, a medieval Umbrian hamlet. Since the mid-1980s, the Cucinelli family has restored its historic centre and surrounding landscape.

Brunello: The Gracious Visionary is billed as an inside look at the life and career of the man behind a luxury fashion empire, known as a “philosopher-designer” for his integration of humanistic values, craftsmanship and ethical entrepreneurship.

The film is produced by Brunello Cucinelli S.p.A. and MasiFilm in collaboration with Rai Cinema, and was released by 01 Distribution in Italy in December.

The Picturehouse deal follows a partnership with Blue Fox Entertainment to release the film across 100+ screens in North America this spring. Further international deals on the project are currently underway.

Edoardo Bussi, founder and CEO at Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment, said: “Picturehouse Entertainment is the perfect UK partner for this film, an elevated and historic brand that understands how to honour the craftsmanship and beauty of Brunello’s life story as told by Giuseppe Tornatore. We’re confident this feature will enchant UK audiences of all generations as a tale of love, family, and the man behind a completely unique fashion empire.”

Sara Frain, managing director of Picturehouse Entertainment, said: “We’re proud to be working with Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment and Academy Award-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore. Brunello Cucinelli’s journey speaks to far more than fashion; it’s a story of vision, humanity and craftsmanship, and we’re excited to bring it to fashion lovers, and audiences passionate about art, design and documentary storytelling throughout the UK.”
