Zodiak Rights secures first deal for UK comedy sequel.

Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Zodiak Media, has begun selling the sequel to hit UK comedy The Inbetweeners Movie and has closed its first deal with Village Roadshow, which will release the film in Australia and New Zealand.

Village Roadshow previosuly released the first film in Australia, where the sequel is set, and NZ.

The Inbetweeners Movie 2 is produced by Zodiak Media-owned Bwark and is co-financed by Film4.

The sequel reunites the clueless Jay, Neil, Simon and Will, as they go on an adventure in Australia. Shooting on the feature, written and codirected by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, started Dec 6 with the original cast members: Simon Bird (Will), Joe Thomas (Simon), James Buckley (Jay) and Blake Harrison (Neil).

The first film - a spin-off from a TV comedy that aired on Channel 4’s digital station E4 - grossed more than $90m at the worldwide box office when released in 2011.

Entertainment Film Distributors will release the sequel in cinemas across the UK and Ireland in August 2014.

Zodiak Rights holds the worldwide distribution rights to the feature film, with the exception of UK and Ireland.
