‘Paper Tiger’

James Gray’s Paper Tiger has been set as the opening night film at the 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF).

The screening on September 25 at the Alice Tully Hall will be the film’s North American premiere and Grey and members of the cast and crew will be in attendance.

Presented by Film at Lincoln Center, this year’s NYFF runs from September 25 to October 12.

Paper Tiger had its world premiere in competition at this year’s Cannes festival. Neon acquired North American rights to the film just before Cannes and will launch the film in the US on November 13.

Starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson, and set in New York in 1986, the film charts the tragic domestic fallout after a family man who aspires to middle-class comforts is pulled into a shady deal by his brother, a former NYPD cop.

Gray, who has had three previous films selected for the NYFF, commented: “I’m immensely grateful to be welcomed back to this remarkable festival,. This deeply personal film is rooted in New York City; from my upbringing to life-changing family experiences. To be here, at the heart of art and cinema, with our cast and crew—many of whom are New Yorkers—is a privilege. Thank you to the entire New York Film Festival team. It is an honour.”
