Universal has set an August 2027 release date for Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice as the director comes off the $600m-plus global success of summer hit F1: The Movie.
Kosinski will shoot in Imax and casting is underway ahead of a 2026 production start.
Universal said the feature will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980’s Miami, inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the famous series that ran 1984-89 and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.
Dylan Clark, whose credits include The Batman, is producing the feature with Kosinski. Dan Gilroy and Eric Singer adapted the screenplay based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich from the series on which he served as executive producer alongside Michael Mann.
Kosinski has enjoyed successive hits with F1 and 2022 release Top Gun: Maverick. He is developing an untitled UFO project that would reunite him with F1 studio Apple Original Films.
