Four days of filming took place in and around the Red Square last week.

Local studio and service providers RWS (Russian World Studios) and Mass Media Systems were instrumental in securing permission from local and national authorities for the shoot in and around the Red Square, a location often out of bounds to Hollywood filmmakers.

Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist and Vladimir Mashkov will star in Paramount’s action-adventure, about which plot details have been kept under wraps. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) directs, Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have scripted and Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and Paula Wagner are producing. The Bad Robot Production is co-financed by David Ellison’s Skydance Productions and is slated for a December 2011 release.

“We are very thankful to Mass Media System and RWS. The companies provided us with everything we needed from technology equipment to a wonderful crew. We received permission to film in the most innovative locations in central Moscow,” said executive producer Jeffrey Chernov.

The production is also shooting in Prague, Dubai and Vancouver.
