‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

David Fincher’s Cliff Booth film, written by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt, has been set for a global theatrical release in Imax cinemas on November 25 this year, two weeks before its streaming launch on Netflix on December 23.

The Netflix film moves into the release slot recently vacated by Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, now set by the streamer for a longer theatrical window beginning on February 10, 2027.

The move raises doubt about Fincher’s film – sometimes referred to as The Adventures Of Cliff Booth – being in contention for this year’s Venice festival, since the late November release date is more than eight weeks after the end of the festival’s September 2-12 run.

In the Fincher project, Pitt will return to the role that won him an Oscar for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, picking up the character of stunt man Cliff Booth in 1977 in a very different Hollywood. Also starring will be Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller. Producers are Ceán Chaffin and Pitt.

Netflix’s move to give Gerwig’s Narnia a 49-day exclusive theatrical window before streaming has been welcomed by exhibitors. The fantasy film, which had been set for a two week Imax run, will now open for one day exclusively on Imax on February 10 before opening globally in participating cinemas on February 12. It will debut on Netflix on April 2.
