‘Orwell: 2+2=5’

Raoul Peck’s Orwell: 2+2=5 leads the pack of Critics Choice Documentary Awards nominees with seven nods followed by Geeta Gandbhir’s The Perfect Neighbor on six.

Orwell: 2+2=5 premiered in Cannes and explores the work of British author and activist George Orwell and the rise of totalitarianism in the world today. The Perfect Neighbor premiered in Sundance and chronicles the killing of a Black  woman in 2023 in Florida that challenged the state’s ‘stand your ground’ law.

As previously announced, Ken Burns will receive the Critics Choice Impact Award, and Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady will collect the Pennebaker Award, formerly the Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award.

The tenth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards will take place on November 9 in New York and will be live-streamed on YouTube, X, Facebook, and the organisation’s website.
