Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s sci-fi hit Everything Everywhere All At Once leads the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards with 11 nods, ahead of Martin McDonagh’s Irish tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin and Edward Berger’s anti-war epic All Quiet On The Western Front with nine nominations each.

Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis scored eight nominations, while Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama The Fabelmans achieved seven nods.

Just behind were Todd Field’s psychological drama TAR and box office smash Top Gun: Maverick with six nods each.

All of the above films have been nominated in the best picture category, alongside Avatar: Way Of The Water, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking - setting the scene for an Oscar best picture race that spans box office hits through to art house successes.

Everything Everywhere’s 11 nominations include best film, best director, best actress for Michelle Yeoh, supporting actor for Ke Huy Quan and two in the supporting actress category for Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu.

The Banshees Of Inisherin’s nine nods include best film, best director, best actor for Colin Farrell and two in the supporting actor category for Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan.

The nine nominations for Edward Berger’s German First World War drama All Quiet On The Western Front include best film and best international feature, and it was strong in technical categories.

Among its eight nods, biopic Elvis was shortlisted for best film nod and best actor for lead Austin Butler, but Baz Luhrman missed out on a best director nomination.

With seven nods, Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama Fabelmans earned nominations for best film and best director. It is Spielberg’s 12th nomination for best picture, a record for an individual producer, and his ninth nomination for directing, tying him with Martin Scorsese. The Fabelmans was also prominent in acting categories. Michelle Williams secured a nod as best actress, while Judd Hirsch did so in the supporting actor category.

Crowd-pleaser Top Gun: Maverick earned best film and adapted screenplay nods, but star Tom Cruise missed out on an actor nomination.

No women were nominated in the best director category, with Ruben Ostlund for Triangle Of Sadness and Todd Field for TAR joining Spielberg, Daniels, and Martin McDonagh on the list.

A surprise nomination in the best actress category was Andrea Riseborough for Michael Morris’ indie drama To Leslie.

In the acting categories, 16 individuals are first-time nominees - Austin Butler, Hong Chau, Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Tyree Henry, Stephanie Hsu, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Bill Nighy, Ke Huy Quan, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Yeoh. Cate Blanchett is a previous acting winner.

Among the international feature list was The Quiet Girl, a first ever nomination for Ireland in the category.

The 2023 Oscars will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony for the third time.

Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner will executive produce the show with Weiss also directing for the eighth consecutive year.
