
London-based critics Catherine Bray and Dave Calhoun are set to bolster Screen International’s industry-leading team of international critics.
Bray has been writing professionally about film for two decades for outlets including The Guardian and Variety, alongside an award-winning career in production for funders such as the BBC. She is a co-founder of production company Loop, whose most recent film was Charlie Shackleton’s feature documentary Zodiac Killer Project which won Sundance’s Next prize in 2025.
A member of the London Film Critics Circle and former commissioner for Channel 4, Bray also currently consults on behalf of the British Council for major international film festivals.
Calhoun has been writing about film for over 25 years, starting his career at Dazed & Confused magazine in 2000. He was previously a longtime member of the editorial staff at Time Out, where he began as film editor in 2004 and most recently served as global chief content officer from 2022-2026.
Calhoun has also programmed cinema masterclasses for Guardian Masterclass, broadcast on the BBC and Sky and written for various publications including Sight & Sound, Uncut and The Times. He is a member of the London Film Critics Circle and the European Film Academy.
Bray and Calhoun will report to Screen’s reviews editor Nikki Baughan and join a global team of critics, including senior international critic Wendy Ide; senior US critic Tim Grierson; UK writers Jonathan Romney, Amber Wilkinson and Allan Hunter; Europe-based critics Lee Marshall (Italy), Boyd Van Hoeij (France/Luxembourg) and Jonathan Holland (Spain); Chicago-based Robert Daniels; and Asia critics John Berra (China) and Elizabeth Kerr (Hong Kong).
