Sony Pictures Classics has acquired Andy Garcia’s Cannes crime drama Diamond for the world excluding France, Germany, Italy, and CIS.
Garcia wrote, directed and produced the contemporary Los Angeles-set noir about Joe Diamond, a man who uses his wit and observation skills to solve crimes. The cast includes Vicki Krieps, Brendan Fraser, Bill Murray, and Dustin Hoffman.
The CineSon production was produced by Jai Stefan for Shrink Media, Frank Mancuso Jr. for FGM Entertainment, and Paul Soriano from Black Cap Pictures / TEN17P.
Black Cap Pictures / Nexis Entertainment financed the film and served as executive producers led by Simon Heo and Nikki Romero alongside John Ahn, Wendy Lee, and Nino Cuccinello, Marco Vicini and Fernando Tsai.
Garcia, who designed the music and co-wrote the score with longtime collaborator Arturo Sandoval, said: “I’ve been working on this story for close to 20 years. This is not unusual for personal films in the independent world […] Dreams sometimes do come true.”
Sony Pictures Classics negotiated the deal with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers, with The Veterans handling international rights.
