Sony Pictures Classics has scheduled a week-long awards-qualifying run starting on December 5 for Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life starring Jodie Foster, which gets its Canadian premiere as a TIFF Gala screening on September 9.
The French-language female noir will open on January 16, 2026. The drama received its world premiere in Cannes followed by the recent US premiere in Telluride.
After TIFF, where Foster will receive a TIFF Tribute Award, it plays in Spotlight at the New York Film Festival on October 5 and 6, and will open the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 28.
In A Private Life Foster plays a renowned psychiatrist who is deeply troubled by the sudden death of one of her patients. Convinced it was murder, she decides to investigate.
The cast includes Virginie Efira, Daniel Auteuil, Matthieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste, and Luana Bajrami. Frederic Jouve and Marie Lecoq procuced for Les Films Velvet. Goodfellas handle international sales.
