Varanasi, SS Rajamouli’s follow-up to his 2022 Telegu-language sensation RRR, will open around the world on April 7, 2027.
Indian superstar Mahesh Babu stars alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran in what is described as a globe-trotting action adventure in the vein of the Indiana Jones and James Bond films, spanning locations from Antarctica to Africa to the titular city in India.
MM Keeravani, who ensured RRR took home the best original song Oscar in 2023 for Naatu Naatu, returns to compose the score. The film’s distributors will be announced on a future date.
RRR grossed more than $166m at the global box office and ranks as the number five highest-grossing film of all time in India on $130m. The film centres on the exploits of Indian freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju.
