Guillermo del Toro, Jodie Foster, Hikari and Lee Byung Hun have been revealed as the first group of honourees for the seventh annual Tribute Awards at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). 

Oscar-winning Mexican-born filmmaker del Toro, whose Frankenstein is getting a gala presentation at the festival, will receive TIFF’s Ebert Director Award. 

Two-time Oscar winner Foster, star of the festival’s North American premiere A Private Life, will receive the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award. 

Japanese writer, director and producer Hikari, whose Rental Family is having its world premiere at the festival, gets the TIFF Emerging Talent Award. 

South Korean actor Lee is the recipient of the TIFF Special Tribute Award and will attend the festival as the star of Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice. The film has been added to the TIFF line-up as a North American gala premiere. 

Brendan Fraser, who won TIFF’s Tribute Performer Award in 2022, will serve as honorary chair of he Tribute Awards. 

The awards, celebrating outstanding contributions to cinema, will be presented on September 7 at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The awards gala is TIFF’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the festival’s fiftieth anniversary Transform Together campaign.

We’re also delighted to welcome back Brendan Fraser, our 2022 Tribute Performer Award recipient, as this year’s Honorary Chair, a beloved artist and past honouree whose warmth, generosity, and passion for storytelling truly embody the spirit of our festival.”
