
EXCLUSIVE: The highly-anticipated sequel to hit Hong Kong action thriller Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In is set to begin filming in April, with an elaborate set of the Kowloon Walled City under construction in Hong Kong.
Twilight Of The Warriors: The Final Chapter will reunite director Soi Cheang with producers John Chong and Wilson Yip, production designer Kenneth Mak, and action choreographer Kenji Tanigaki. The four younger actors – Raymond Lam, Terrance Lau, German Cheung and Tony Wu – will reprise their roles.
Like the original, the follow-up will draw from the novel City Of Darkness by Yuyi and is adapted by Au Kin Yee and Shum Kwan Sin, who also worked on Cheang’s 2021 noir thriller Limbo. Angus Chan’s Entertaining Power owns the film rights to the novel. Media Asia handles international sales.
Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In was a $40m feature that received its international premiere at Cannes in the Midnight Screenings section in 2024 and went on to become that year’s second biggest film at the Hong Kong box office with takings of nearly $14m (HK$108.44m).
It was also was Hong Kong’s entry to the Oscars and won nine prizes at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA), including best film, best director and all the technical categories.
Set in the British Colonial Hong Kong of the 1980s, the first film follows a troubled youth named Chan as he accidentally enters the infamous Kowloon Walled City – a dangerous Chinese enclave riddled with gang crime and corruption. He soon discovers order amidst the chaos and learns important life lessons from the inhabitants as they resist an invasion.
