Neil Jordan’s Ondine and Conor McPherson’s The Eclipse have each picked up eight nominations, including best feature and best director, for the 7th Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA), which take place on February 20 in Dublin.

Margaret Corkery’s drama Eamon, Tomm Moore’s animated feature Brendan And The Secret Of Kells and John and Kieran Carney’s comedy Zonad have also received nominations for best film.

In the best director category, Jordan and McPherson are joined by Jim Sheridan for Brothers and John and Kieran Carney for Zonard, which has picked up a total of six nominations.

Colin Farrell heads up the shortlisted nominees in the best actor category for his performance in Ondine. He will be up against Darren Healy (Savage), Ciarán Hinds (The Eclipse) and Stephen Rea (Nothing Personal).

In the best actress category Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones), Amy Kirwan (Eamon), Jade Yourell (Happy Ever Afters) and Janice Byrne (Zonad) have been shortlisted.

Meanwhile, the best international film category includes Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Let the Right One In and Up.

The nominations, across 37 categories in both film and television, have been chosen by members of the Irish Film and Television Academy alongside a panel of international experts, and reflect Irish talent over the last twelve months.

Academy CEO Aine Moriarty said: “It’s a tremendous line-up of strong, diverse Irish production for IFTA 2010 and the Nominees’ showcase of work reinforces the fact that Ireland has a superb resource of creative talent, despite the difficult Irish economic year and the knock-on effect to our creative industries.”
