Kyle Davies has joined fledgling Los Angeles-based studio Overture Films in the new position of executive vice president of theatrical distribution.

The 20-year distribution veteran arrives from Paramount, where he most recently served as vice president, Western division and before that as vice president, central division, at DreamWorks.

At Overture, Davies will assume responsibility for all the studio's distribution strategies and execution, reporting to Overture president of marketing, distribution and new media Peter Adee.

Overture plans to release eight-12 original productions and acquisitions a year. The first two titles in the pipeline are 105 Degrees And Rising with Echo Lake Productions, and the Charlize Theron-starrer Ferris Wheel.

'The changing environment in the theatrical distribution business presents many new challenges and just as many opportunities,' Adee said. 'We think Kyle's combination of know-how and foresight makes him the perfect person for the job.'

'Having worked on the exhibition and distribution sides of the business, I'm ready for the opportunity to work at Overture,' Davies said. 'Their artist-friendly approach, their solid business plan and their assets from being part of the same company as Starz and Liberty Media, makes Overture the most exciting new feature film company in years.'

At Paramount and DreamWorks, Davies handled such releases as Dreamgirls, Mission: Impossible III, Over The Hedge, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty, and the first two Shrek films.
