The UK’s Pinball Films has come on board to present Martin Radich’s The Conundrum, a low-budget film starring Trevor Fox.
Pinball’s Ashley Horner also serves as a producer.
Pinball plans an early 2012 Internet and transmedia release for the project.
Radich, who previously directed 2008 Edinburgh Film Festival selection Crack Willow, shot The Conundrum for a budget under £70 in eight days in the director’s former hometown of Blackpool.
In addition to directing, Radich also wrote, shot, edited and produced the film. The film was shot on a children’s video camera (@Tech TDV-2060). Northern Film + Media provided completion financing.
The story looks at the precarious positions of day-to-day life, as seen by one disoriented individual.
“[Radich] is a maverick outsider. This is lo-fi, low-art cinema. It’s genius,” Horner told Screen. “It’s a very provocative piece.”
He continued: “We just want to allow people to see it and we want to find as big an audience as we can.”
The film had its world premiere at the Cork International Film Festival, which had previously shown a number of Radich’s award-winning shorts.
Radich is also working with Pinball to develop his third feature, Dandelion.
Pinball’s Ashley Horner spoke to Screen at the Les Arcs Co-Production Village this week, where he was presenting Whorses, the directorial debut feature of Sean Conway.
Whorses will be a supernatural romance about a teenage shaman who falls in love with a local beauty, while having to fight a mythical beast.
Conway has made shorts including Alex and Her Arse Truck and Kings of London, and is currently the writer of Sky Atlantic’s forthcoming series Hit And Miss, starring Chloe Sevigny and created by Paul Abbott (Shameless).
Conway also previously wrote brilliantlove, also released in the US as The Orgasm Diaries, which Horner directed.
Conway will be the subject of a shorts retrospective on Jan 11 at the ICA in London as part of the London Short Film Festival.
