Roma Khanna has been named president, Global Networks and Digital Initiatives, at NBC Universal International, based in London.

She takes up the new position on Sept 17 after leaving Canada 's CHUM Television, where she was co-head and senior vice president of content.

She will report to Peter Smith, president of NBC Universal International.

'Roma has an incredibly impressive record of experience and achievement in the television industry and we are proud to welcome her to the team. Her strong proven leadership skills will be key to realizing our ambitious Global Networks growth plans over the next 2-3 years,' Smith said.

Khanna will work on geographic expansion, partnerships, new channel creation and growing the international prospects for the Sci-Fi, 13th Street and Universal Channel brands. She will also create new digital business and content for NBCU.

This appointment follows NBC Universal International's recent plans to launch 20 new local TV channels in 23 new countries.
