Damon Romine has been appointed as director of communications at the beleaguered Screen Actors Guild. He will start work on April 1.

He arrives at a difficult time for the Guild, which is locked in a stalemate with the studios over contract talks. The talks have focus on a number of issues including residual payments for work that appears in the new media sphere.

Romaine was previously director of entertainment media at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, where he was responsible for the organisation's national entertainment media strategy and created the Be An Ally & A Friend public education campaign.

This 20-year career in communications has also included a stint as communications and marketing consultant for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, where he produced member publications and educational materials.

In his new role, Romine will be based in Los Angeles and will report to Screen Actors Guild communications executive director and spokesperson Pamela Greenwalt.
