Screendaily reported last weekend [Nov 9] that the studio had acquired Australia, Latin America, Spain, Scandinavia and select territories in Eastern Europe from Summit International.
A press release issued by the studio last night [Nov 12] revealed it has also licensed rights to the $85m project for Portugal, South Africa, New Zealand and much of Asia. Warner Bros holds North American rights and has scheduled a January 15 2010 release.
SPWAG's vice president of acquisitions and productions Scott Shooman brought the project to Sony and negotiated the deal with Summit Entertainment's co-chairman and president Patrick Wachsberger.
Albert and Allen Hughes are set to begin filming in February on the story about a lone warrior who journeys across a devastated America and holds the key to society's salvation.
Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman star in the Alcon Entertainment and Silver Pictures production.
