The Works UK Distribution has taken UK rights from Katapult Films to Grant Gee's Toronto hit documentary Joy Division.

The deal was negotiated between Mark Ankner of Endeavor, David Jourdan of Katapult and Laurence Gornall from The Works.

The Works plans a UK theatrical release in 2008.

The film has already sold to The Weinstein Company for North America, Madman for Australia, Pretty Pictures for France and Benelux, and CCV for Scandinavia. Katapult says it expects to close more deals at the AFM.

Gornall, marketing director of The Works, said: 'This is a stunning film about an amazing band. We are delighted to be working with Endeavor and Katapult on such an exceptional project.'

The documentary about the influential 1970s UK band, also the subject of Anton Corbijn's feature Control (a UK hit for Momentum), includes interviews will all surviving band members.
