Young Dutch actor Thijs Romer will co-star in the forthcoming remake of Theo van Gogh's Blind Date, to be directed by Stanley Tucci.

Shooting starts in two weeks in Belgium.

It will be Romer's international film debut. He co-stars as a waiter, who is watching a married couple who are pretending to be on a blind date in his restaurant. The couple is portrayed by Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci. Dutch company Column and New York 's Ironworks are producing.

Blind Date is the second of three remakes of features by the late Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh. The first production, Interview by Steve Buscemi, played at this year's Sundance and Berlin. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up US distribution, Cinemavault is dealing with international rights. The third film, 06, will be directed by Bob Balaban.

Rising star Romer, 28, comes from a famous Dutch family of actors. He was close friends with the late Van Gogh and starred in his features Medea and The Sixth of May.
