Vera Glagoleva’s Russian film One War won the Grand Prix at the 14th Sofia International Film Festival, which ran March 5 to 14.

The film tells the story of a woman forced into sex slavery by occupying soliders during the Second World War and then later accussed of treason by Soviet troops.

The best director award went to Serbia’s Miroslav Momcilovic for Wait For Me And I Will Not Come, while Julia Solomonoff’s The Last Summer Of La Boyita won the Special Jury Award.

Bulgaria’s Eastern Plays by Kamen Kalev received a special mention as well as the Kodak Award for the best Bulgarian film. Mahmut Fazil Coskun’s Wrong Rosary picked up the No Man’s Land Award for the best Balkan film.

In the documentary section, Peter Kerekes’ Cooking History won the top prize with the audience awards going to Jacob Tierney’s The Trotsky.

During the festival, the seventh Sofia Meeetings also took place. This year’s edition saw Macedonia’s Sasha Damjanovski receive the award for best pitching in the Second Films Pitching section for Kalabalak worth $6,800 (€5,000).
