Ray Winstone and Stephen Curry have joined the cast of Silver Lion Films' true-life underdog story The Cup, which Myriad Pictures is pre-selling here.

Winstone, who stars alongside Harrison Ford in Sunday's out of competition world premiere screening of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, will play renowned Irish horse trainer Dermot Weld.

Weld inspires the young jockey Damien Oliver - played by young Australian actor Curry - to overcome the death of his race jockey brother and go on to win the famous race.

Simon Wincer (Free Willy) wrote the screenplay with Eric O'Keefe and will begin shooting in September in Ireland and Melbourne.

The film has been put together in association with Australian rights holders Village Roadshow Australia and the Film Finance Corporation.

Jan Bladier and David Lee are producing and Lance Hool of Silver Lion Films and Myriad Pictures' Kirk D'Amico serve as executive producers.

Winstone is represented by David Unger at ICM and Curry is handled by Katherine Dodd at Creative Management in Sydney.
