Swiss independent distributor Ascot Elite has taken all German-speaking European rights to Shane Meadows' This Is England from sales company The Works International.

Meadows' somewhat autobiographical story of a young boy influenced by skinheads in 1980s England won the best film and best newcomer (Thomas Turgoose) awards at the British Independent Film Awards. The film also won the special jury award at the Rome Film Festival.

The deal was negotiated by Stephan Giger, COO of Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, and Joy Wong, head of The Works International.

'Shane's story about a troubled boy growing up in England, set in 1983, has managed to become one of my personal favourite films of all time,' said Giger. 'This fine film deserves and demands an inventive approach to its distribution, putting one's entire heart into it.'

Mark Herbert produced the Warp Films Production in association with Big Arty Productions. Backers also include Film4, the UK Film Council, EM Media and Screen Yorkshire.
