Ausfilm, the organisation that markets Australia's filmmaking talent to the world, has appointed a new chairman.

Martin Cayzer, managing director of Panavision Australia, will chair Ausfilm for a two-year term.

It should be a lively term, as the country is on track for a record level of foreign film and television production this financial year, in part because of new tax rebates.

Former chairman Ian Robertson, head of law firm Holding Redlich, steered Ausfilm through an intense period of advocacy and marketing, culminating in the announcement of the Australian Screen Production Incentive, comprising the Location and Post, Digital and VFX (PDV) Offsets, in May's federal budget.

Cayzer is no stranger to Ausfilm. He was previously co-deputy chair and head of the Ausfilm Policy Committee.

He has been part of Panavision's global operations for 25 years and is responsible for its Australian and SE-Asia operations. China and India - two burgeoning co-production areas - are part of his Panavision domain.

Also joining Ausfilm's executive committee as deputy chair is Alaric McAusland, general manager of Atlab Group. Catherine McDonnell, Fox Studios Australia's head of business and legal affairs, is co-deputy chair. Last month (August) Ausfilm appointed a new CEO, Caroline Pitcher.

Ausfilm is a government-industry partnership, which includes all the country's film agencies and 40 private companies with links to filmmaking. It markets Australia's incentives, locations and capabilities in production and post-production facilities to attract international content.
