Equation goes on Death March

EXCLUSIVE: French distributor acquires rights to Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr.’s Un Certain Regard title.

France’s Equation has picked up Un Certain Regard title Death March, directed by the Philippines’ Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr.

Versatile Films is handling international sales on the film which depicts the infamous Second World War Bataan Death March, during which thousands of Filipino and American soldiers were forced to march by Japanese soldiers amidst heat, starvation and disease.

“The film is very unique and different – he shoots it in such a way that you are totally immersed in what is happening on the screen,” said Equation founder Didier Costet.

Costet is also in talks with Alix Jr about financing his next film, Porno, through his Paris-based production company Swift Productions.

Porno revolves around the Philippines’ underground porn industry, involving love motels that place cameras in their rooms to capture the real-life sexual exploits of unsuspecting politicians and stars.

Angel Aquino will star in the film as a porn-addicted transsexual. Carlo Aquino (no relation) also stars. Production is scheduled to start in July.

Costet has previously worked with the Philippines’ Brillante Mendoza on films such as Kinotay and Serbis, but this marks the first time he has worked with Alix Jr.
