SUNDANCE: Bold Films’ Day One world premiere was one of the hot titles heading into the festival and accordingly Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions wasted little time acquiring select territories.

The studio snapped up the UK, Latin America, Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, Benelux, Eastern Europe, Greece, South Africa and Portugal in a deal with international sales agent Sierra/Affinity.

Damien Chazelle’s feature directorial debut screens in US Dramatic competition and stars Miles Teller and JK Simmons as a promising jazz orchestra drummer and his brutal instructor.

Whiplash is adapted from the 28-year-old Harvard graduate’s award-winning Sundance 2013 short film of the same name.

Jason Blum, Helen Estabrook, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster produced and Jason Reitman, Gary Michael Walters and Couper Samuelson served as executive producers.
