This marks the third year of the City to City series.

The Toronto International Film Festival’s next city for its City To City programme will be Buenos Aires.

This marks the third year of the City to City series, with past tributes going to Tel Aviv and Istanbul.

“New Argentine cinema first captured the attention of critics and audiences around the world in the late 1990s,” said Cameron Bailey, Co-Director of TIFF. “Now that we’ve seen such strong work from Lucrecia Martel, Pablo Trapero, Lisandro Alonso and their peers, here comes a new crop of passionate, impressive filmmakers emerging in Buenos Aires. This year City to City will introduce a new generation of auteurs to audiences in Toronto.”

“Buenos Aires has become a 21st century hub for artists from all over the world,” added Kate Lawrie Van de Ven, City to City Programmer. “The mix of influences from inside and outside the city has produced a flourishing creative community. “We look forward to getting to know those new voices better when we travel to Buenos Aires in April, and to bringing the best work back to Toronto.”

Selections will be announced in August. TIFF runs Sept 8-18.
