The Mexican actor will join Charlotte Rampling as a second recipient of the Locarno Film Festival’s Excellence Award this year.

Garcia Bernal will collect his award on August 8, ahead of a screening of Pablo Larrain’s Cannes winner No - in which he stars a Chilean advertising executive who helps to topple General Pinochet - in Locarno’s Piazza Grande venue.

The festival will include screenings of his other works including Pedro Almodovar’s Bad Education and Michel Gondry’s The Science Of Sleep.

Bernal make an appearance on Locarno’s screens last year in the Concorso internazionale entry The Loneliest Planet, directed by Julia Loktev.
