Los Angeles-based HighRoad Entertainment has optioned the rights to the script Angel Of Oxnard from Cheech Marin, one half of the celebrated stoner duo Cheech And Chong.
Marin will direct and star in the story of a local broadcaster who finds himself at the centre of a global media storm when his face appears on a tortilla.
HighRoad Entertainment's David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud are producing. Marin showed the producers his script when he worked with them on the baseball drama The Perfect Game, which Lionsgate will release in spring 2009.
Marin is represented by Ben Feigin of Anonymous Content and attorney Stan Coleman.
Salzberg and Tureaud served as executive producers on the documentary Running The Sahara narrated by Matt Damon.
