IFC Entertainment has acquired North American rights to Baltasar Kormakur's crime thriller Jar City, which started screening here on Thursday. Vice president of acquisitions and production Arianna Bocco and director of acquisitions and production Lizzie Nastro did the deal with ICM and Trust Films' sales executive Natja Noviani Rosner at Telluride in Colorado last weekend.

'[Jar City is] one of the most riveting, exciting pieces of film-making to come out of Iceland while also commenting on the danger's of genetic research,' IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring said. 'We look forward to bringing it to an American audience.'

Adapted from Arnaldur Indrioason's crime novel, the film sets agrieving father's search for truth against the background of the criminal trade in medical research. Jar City won the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and took home five Icelandic Edda Awards last year.
