Lisa Nishimura-Seese has joined Netflix in the new role of vice president of independent content acquisition.

Nishimura-Seese most recently served as general manager of New York-based Palm Pictures and will be charged with acquiring independent and small studio films for the subscriber base, which according to the company has reached seven million.

She joined Palm in 2002 and before that served from 1996 to 2001 as head of sales and marketing for San Francisco-based Six Degrees Records.

'I have long admired Lisa's innovative and creative insights in the home entertainment and independent film worlds,' Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, to whom Nishimura-Seese will report, said.
