The 16th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced 13 films from 12 countries for the New Currents competition of up-and-coming Asian directors.

The selection is made up of 11 world and two international premieres. Tongpong Chantarangkul’s I Carried You Home is also a recipient of Busan’s Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) Script Development and Post-production funds. Tom Shu-yu Lin’s Starry, Starry Night was also a former PPP project and ACF Post-production Fund winner.

The festival noted Southeast Asia has produced remarkable films this year and that the New Currents films this year run under the themes of “homecoming”, “alienation”, “family” and “growing”.
