Media Asia moves into Campus

EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong’s Media Asia Films has picked up international rights (excluding Taiwan) to comedy Campus Confidential, produced by Taiwan’s Su Chao-pin and Jimmy Huang.

Starring Chen Bolin and Chen Yi Han, the $2.5m film is directed by Su’s protégé Lai Chunyu and produced by Unit 9 Pictures, the production outfit established in 2003 by Su and Huang.

CMC Entertainment has Taiwanese rights to the film, which is scheduled to wrap on March 23. The cast also includes Kuo Shu Yau and Chiang Kang Che.

The film revolves around the premise that if two people meet at Lake Chrysanthemum, when the lake has dried up, they are destined to fall in love and stay together forever. The myth is put to the test when a beauty queen bumps into the college nerd on such a night.

Su is one of Taiwan’s leading directors with credits including mystery drama Silk and Reign Of Assassins, which he co-directed with John Woo. Huang is his long-term producing partner, who also has credits including Wei Te-sheng’s Warriors Of The Rainbow: Seediq Bale.

Media Asia is also handling sales on Taiwanese director Arvin Chen’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?, which recently premiered at the Berlin film festival.
