Warner Bros Pictures International’s (WBPI) reigning champion Sherlock Holmes 2 has reached $239m and should coast past $250m this weekend in the face of Sony’s Underworld Awakening.

WBPI opens J. Edgar in the UK and Germany and the biopic stands at $14m. Meanwhile Journey 2: The Mysterious Island starring Dwayne Johnson is set to launch in its first international territory of Australia this weekend. New Year’s Eve is on $88.5m.

Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) launches Underworld Awakening starring Kate Beckinsale day-and-date with North America in 33 territories, among them Russia and Italy, South Africa, Taiwan and Poland.

Thriller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has grossed around $50m and arrives in a further 10 territories this weekend, including Mexico, France and Argentina. The Adventures Of Tintin has grossed more than $279m including Paramount Pictures International (PPI) markets and opens through SPRI in Brazil.

The Adam Sandler comedy Jack And Jill opens in Japan and Spain while A Musica Segundo Tim Jobim launches in Brazil.

PPI opens Relativity’s action thriller Haywire from Steven Soderbergh in the UK day-and-date with the North American release through Relativity. DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots on $335.7m arrives in Hong Kong.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol stands at $325.8m and dark comedy Young Adult is set to touch down in Australia and Russia.

Fox International opens alien invasion thriller The Darkest Hour on $20.2m in Australia and Italy. The Descendants begins its roll-out in Spain and Portugal, among a handful of other territories. The awards contender has amassed an early $2.4m.

Cameron Crowe’s drama We Bought A Zoo on $16.6m opens in eight including South Korea. Comedy The Sitter arrives in the UK this weekend.

Universal’s Mark Wahlberg thriller Contraband debuts through UPI in nine territories including Taiwan. Tower Heist has reached $63.8m and opens in Argentina.

Black Gold opens in Spain, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy arrives in Australia and New Zealand and Intruders on $4m infiltrates Germany.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International will open its Beauty And The Beast 3D re-release in its first international territory, Mexico, this weekend.

The Muppets stands at $17.8m and arrives in Germany and Austria, while DreamWorks’ The Help opens in Italy and has grossed $36.6m. DreamWorks’ War Horse stands at $20.4m and has amassed $9m in the UK so far. The Lion King on $76.3m opens in Denmark and Norway.
