EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures International takes European territories on Boca and War Games from Cinemavault

Universal Pictures International has acquired specific European rights of both biopic Boca and thriller War Games from Toronto-based Cinemavault, which has also signed deals with boutique distributors in other territories for the two pictures.

Boca, the true story of a ruthless Brazilian mobster, will be distributed by UPI in the UK, Benelux and France, while J BICS acquired rights in Thailand and Mediamax in Turkey.

Director Cosimo Alemà’s War Games – a game of paintball that turns deadly – has also been sold to Universal Pictures Int’l and that deal includes the UK, France, Benelux and Scandinavia. M Pictures has acquired rights for Thailand; Nikkatsu has Japan, Transmission acquired rights in Australia, Mediamax has Turkey, KSM has Germany, Sundream acquired Hong Kong and MIP picked up the rest of the Middle East.

Boca, directed by Flavio Frederico, is about the true story of one of Brazil’s most ruthless mobsters, Hiroito Joanides. It premiered at the Rio International Film Festival winning best cinematography and best editing.

The deals were negotiated by Cinemavault’s Racquel Mesina, EVP Int’l Sales and Simon Howe, Director of Canadian & International Sales.
