QED Int’l promotes Friedberg
John Friedberg has been named evp of international sales in the wake of Daniel Diamond’s segue into a production deal at the company.
Friedberg will work closely with CEO International Bill Block and will attend Cannes with a slate that includes outstanding key territories on David Ayer’s WWII tank thriller Fury to star Brad Pitt and Shia Labeouf.
“John has been a vital part of QED’s recent growth and success, and has demonstrated an outstanding ability to position films of all different genres and budgets for the global market,” said Block. “We remain committed to delivering an exceptional slate of commercial films to our international partners, and I’m delighted to have John leading those efforts with me at Cannes.”
“It’s been exciting to be part of QED as the company has carved out a niche at the top of the global film market,” said Friedberg. “I’m thrilled at the opportunity to continue my relationship with the company and to work with Bill and our amazing team to shape the company’s international agenda going forward.”
Friedberg joined QED in 2006 and his responsibilities have crossed into all areas of the company including production, finance, business affairs, sales and distribution. In 2011 he was promoted to vp of international sales.
The Cannes slate includes: another Ayer film, Ten, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington and Mireille Enos; John Turturro’s Fading Gigolo starring Woody Allen; rom-com Are We Officially Dating? with Zac Efron and Imogen Poots; and the supernatural thriller Haunt starring Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.
