Relativity eyes awards for Furnace

The studio said on Tuesday evening [8] it was moving the release of Scott Cooper’s Out Of The Furnace starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck deeper into awards season.

The thriller had originally been set to open on Oct 4 and will now go out on Nov 27 and expand on Dec 6.

Woody Harrelson, Zoe Saldana, Sam Shepard and Willem Dafoe also star in the story of a blue collar worker who embarks on a search for his troubled brother after the man returns from combat and falls in with a crime syndicate.

Brad Ingelsby wrote the screenplay. Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Killoran produced the film alongside Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Michael Costigan and Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh.

Cooper’s previous film was 2009’s Crazy Heart, which earned Jeff Bridges the best actor Oscar and T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham the best original song Academy Award.
