Sony is re-releasing its Oscar contender in the US to ensure the Facebook drama grosses the $3m required to cross $200m worldwide.

The film, a frontrunner for the Academy Award alongside The King’s Speech, will reopen in approximately 600 US theatres on Friday [7].

The initial launch generated $93m in the US and $104m internationally. The DVD is set to launch in the US on January 11.

“Everyone, everywhere, can relate to the human motivations of the real-life people who are depicted in the film,” Sony’s chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution Jeff Blake said.
