Richards’ ‘lost debut’ out on DVD on Nov 20.

Having won the Melies D’Argent for Best European Fantasy in 1997, Julian Richards’ debut feature Darklands is being released in the US and Canada on DVD in November through MVD Distribution.

Starring Craig Fairbrass, Darklands follows a newspaper reporter who’s investigating the death of a steelworker. Richards has since gone on to direct The Last Horror Movie and Shiver.

Darklands was never released in the US because the production company changed ownership and nobody knew who controlled the rights,” explained sales agent, Rosana Coutinho of Jinga Films. “It took a decade to resolve chain of title, but finally after fifteen years, this cult British film can be appreciated by a North American audience.”
