Wally Pfister’s feature directorial debut is set to commence shooting early next year and will go through the company’s output deal with Warner Bros.

Newcomer Jack Paglen’s screenplay remains under the proverbial wraps. Annie Marter and Straight Up Films developed the script and Marisa Polvino, one of the principals alongside Kate Cohen and Regency Boies, will produce with David Valdes and Alcon co-CEOs and co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas serve as executive producers. Pfister is known primarily for his work as a cinematographer and won the Oscar for Nolan’s Inception, which opened through Warner Bros.

“Johnny Depp is one of the most charismatic, talented actors imaginable and we are delighted he is with us on this project,” said Johnson and Kosove.

Pfister added, “I’m thrilled, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny. He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative.”
